Facts on the long gun registry:
So how is another registry such as the ‘Long gun registry’ going to help fight crime and how can $2 billion of its cost be justified with a 97% failure rate?
By eliminating the long gun registry, the cost of the registration system can be reduced by 91.6% This money could go toward police gear, police vehicles, Police Gang units ( as gangs are the problem, not honest citizens ), youth programs, academics, etc...
‘Long gun registry’ considered a safety tool for police officers? How can that be when every officer actually patrolling the street knows that whether or not someone is in the registry, you cannot assume the subject is not armed. Following a registry will give an officer a false sense of security during a call. Almost no criminals possess a firearms licence, never mind registering their firearm.
1% of firearm related homicides can be traced in the registry. And besides all of this, every legally purchased firearm has its serial number on the invoice, and the serial number has always been required to be given to the CFC during a transfer from person to person or from retailer to consumer via simple phone call thus any trace required in an investigation of a firearm can be traced just like most things we purchase today.
Twenty Liberal and NDP MPs voted with the Conservatives to get Bill C-391 passed through second reading. Many of you contacted MPs and asked them to vote for the bill. Now that they have we want them to know we appreciate their courage in standing up for their constituents. It is now vital that you contact these opposition MPs again and urge them to continue to support the bill through the Committee stage and Third reading.
The anti-gun factions are coming out in full force and make no mistake - they are desperate and will stoop as low as they have to to prevent the bill’s passage. No lie will be too big, no truth stretched too far, no weeping tale too tall if they think it will help them achieve their goal
Contact as many MPs as you can to thank them for their vote and ask them to continue their support. Please take a few minutes to send some e-mails, faxes, letters or phone calls to solidify support for the bill.
